GoPro Sponsored Skydiver Yair Gallardo on Trying New Things and Finding Freedom

Yair Gallardo is one epic dude!  He's a GoPro sponsored skydiver and an amazing Enduro rider.  Thank you Yair for letting us interview you!  We know you'll stay epic and we can't wait to see what amazing things you do next!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and how you got into skydiving.

I think most skydivers started the sport as a life challenge and it became an epic addiction to me! I was an Enduro rider once, I never thought that any other sport could take me away from motorcycle races and then I tried Skydiving!

How much does it typically cost to skydive?

If you are a newbie and you are making your first jump, it´s about USD $180. I pay USD $23 per jump and I try to make 10 jumps per week at least!

I know that you are sponsored by Go Pro but I am kind of confused by what being sponsored by a company means.  Can you tell me what being sponsored by a company is (what your responsibilities are and what rolls you have because you are sponsored).

GoPro México supports me in a lot of ways. They help me learn about new equipment that can better meet my technology needs while skydiving and they always send me new gear and clothing! We also make projects together and I help get them skydiving video so they can make some video productions and sometimes they pay for those jumps.

Tell us about your most epic jump.

I think it was in Puebla, Mexico at sunset chasing my teammates Rémi Angéli (@remiangeli) and Agathe Kalfon (@agathekalfon) in an angle jump. There was an active volcano at the back and one of the most amazing visuals I've ever seen!

What are your other favorite extreme sports?

Enduro for sure! Once I was ranked 2nd in the Metropolitan Championship of Enduro in Mexico! I love Scuba Diving too!

Ever have any close calls while skydiving?

Once during my 161st jump I had to cut away because I had a high speed malfunction (Baglock).

In your opinion, what are the best places to skydive in the world?

It´s going to sound cocky, but I think Puerto Escondido, Mexico is the best place to jump! You have an amazing view, the best weather, and a 3 mile landing zone!

Any advice for someone new to skydiving?

Wait after the 30th jump! That´s the spot where skydiving starts making sense!

Do you have any advice for someone who is new to using a GoPro while skydiving or using one while doing any other extreme sport?

Always put safety first and get well informed of the security rules of your sport. In skydiving you have to know what to do if your gear gets involved in a malfunction or your lines get tangled in your camera.

Why are you so passionate about skydiving?

You don´t realize how quickly skydiving becomes a part of your life, an important piece of your soul. Skydiving makes me feel limitless, free, happy and also thankful for the beauty of nature because of those amazing visual that only skydivers get to see. It´s part of my daily inspiration!

In few words, all I can say is that I´m a very deeply passionate rookie skydiver!
